  Hate isn't even a strong enough word. Sick. Outraged. Disgusted. I had been talking the shelter about a particular dog. The woman noted that she had many people to call back regarding the dog and she would determine who seemed like a best fit and would call them back to come meet the dog. She noted this would take a few days. Mind you, from the website, the dogs are given five days before they are euthanized. So it doesn't seem like the "shelter" should spend a lot of time being discerning versus just trying to get the animals help. This was a Tuesday.
  
  I was called back on a Thursday and was asked if I was still interested in the dog. I said I definitely was. She asked if I could come immediately because there was a rescue coming shortly. I live an hour and a half away, so I wouldn't have been able to get there before the rescue. She said the rescue would be taking the dog then and she would make a note to let me know where the dog ended up. I flat out asked her, "If I don't come right now, are you going to kill the dog?" She assured me NO, the rescue would be taking it. I felt relieved for the animal and I planned on going Saturday with my husband and dog to where ever the little girl had ended up.
  
  I called back Friday to find out where she ended up. The woman got quiet and flat and said, "The animal is no longer at the shelter." So I said, "Yes, I know, you said a rescue was coming to take her yesterday and that I didn't need to come get her right away. Which rescue took her, do you know?" Again curt and flat she said, "The animal is no longer at the shelter."
  
  I don't think it's a big leap to assume they've killed the dog. Especially since the dog is no longer anywhere to be found on their Facebook page (the only place you can see available animals). Animals that have been rescued or adopted have notes in the picture. I spent two days sick over this. There was an urgency in her voice that Thursday, but she assured me the animal would not be killed.
  
  If she had been honest I would have left work immediately and gotten there as soon as I humanly could. I would have been able to save one of those poor, sweet animals who didn't ask for this. And what makes me especially sick about this place, is that they post on their Facebook page things like, "Found these two dogs running around near a street. They're safer here than on the street." Which is nothing short of a lie, because they have five short days before they are euthanized.
  
  The first dog I adopted was in the shelter for a month prior to us taking her. I can't even fathom the poor dog's fate had she ended up in this small piece of hell. To think of the likely hundreds of animals that are being killed each week at this place. And people are surrendering animals to it. If they can't afford to keep the dogs longer than five days, why does this place even exist?
  
  To have someone clearly stating they are interested in a dog and then to kill it anyway. I can't even wrap my head around it.
